| RIME TIME |
First
published in 1994, and still recommended by many educational psychologists and
dyslexia specialists as the best literacy recovery programme for older dyslexic
children.
"I have only recently acquired Rime Time and find it a great
resource for weaker pupils. The layout is very easy, print clear and
uncluttered." U Sheahan, Dublin.
| Rime Time is the result of careful research and thorough classroom testing, and meets the need for an approach to phonological awareness work that combines a light, humorous touch with the necessary elements of structured repetition and testing. The worksheets and dictations build on the 37 rime families recognised as accessing the highest number of analogies (Wylie and Durrell), and presents them in learning order, beginning with -AT and ending with -IGHT. The choice of exercises and the delightful illustrations by Stephanie Dart more than adequately meet the Crossbow criteria for presenting simple material in a way that is acceptable to older students as well as younger ones. Continued overlearning and revision is built into the structure of the dictation passages, which are kept short so that they can be successfully used with self-voice dictation work. A comprehensive diagnostic spelling test is included, so the pages can be selected diagnostically or used sequentially. Pages are uncluttered and user-friendly, and employ a wide variety of exercise formats to develop phonological awareness. |
