AFFECTED BY VISUAL STRESS.

Launched
in 2004 to provide a user-friendly alternative for Irlen syndrome sufferers who
resist using the more intrusive large overlays, these reading rulers are
now in over 40% of the schools in the UK. They are the only product of
their type available anywhere that COMBINE ALL THE FOLLOWING
ESSENTIAL FEATURES:
|
1)
A sufficiently wide range of colors to meet the needs of all children who will
benefit from using a colored overlay product (Smith,
Wilkins, British Journal of Psychology 2007)
2)
Tinted strips on the edge of the ruler and not as a central “letterbox”,
ensuring that context is not lost.
3)
A choice of single line or paragraph depth tracking, differentiating
individual needs and ensuring that fluency can be achieved while using the
reading ruler.
4)
One side matt coated, one side gloss; again allowing for individual preference
(Wilkins,
“Reading Through Colour”, Wiley 2003)

The EYE LEVEL READING RULER is a colored overlay text highlighter
about the size of a six-inch ruler...
...that will fit easily into a pocket of pencil case, or can be kept in the
pages of a book as a bookmark. Discreet and not childish-looking, the
reading ruler is made of a combination of opaque and transparent plastic
that both underlines the text and highlights it in a colored tint.
Simply read the text through either of the tinted plastic strips of your
selected color, and track down the page: broad strip for paragraphs; narrow
strip for single lines.
WHAT COLOR?
Our ten colors have been selected to provide the optimum choice between
tints while also recognizing the the areas of the spectrum that are most
frequently beneficial. Within that selection, our "five most popular
color" packs reflect the commonest choices from our own
statistics. There is no complicated testing procedure: your
students (or you, if they're for yourself) will know quickly which color "works". When you
do know what tint(s) you want, you can buy single color packs from this
page, or you can use the order form that comes with the reading rulers to
specify the exact mix you require.
Comments from High School Children include:
"That's better, sir!"
“I couldn’t read more than two pages of a book before, without
feeling sick!”
“ This is the first time in my life I’ve read a book through to
the end.”

Why two different 10 packs?
Mixed Set of ten
This is the best testing pack. To make sure no-one who might benefit from a
reading ruler does not miss out, try them with all the colors available,
and create extra colors by using two reading rulers together. (If two are
found to be necessary, stick them together with glue on the opaque area) Standard
(5 color) set of ten
Commonest choices tend to cluster in certain hues, particularly blue and
yellow. If you are teaching a group of students on a limited budget, or with
little available time for testing, this is a popular option, although there
is a chance that someone will miss out.
Disclaimer and guarantee: We have a range of ten
colors
