You can change the background colour in your windows preferences, but you can't change the background colour of most web pages.

Anti Screen glare solutions from Crossbow come in high-tech and low-tech form and deal with two distinct sources of screen glare. Everyone experiences a level of screen glare from the VDU light source; in addition at least 20% of the population are also affected by reflected glare from white backgrounds: a specific type of discomfort known as Visual Stress. Tinted Monitor Overlays, a low-cost and low tech  anti screen glare solution, just adhere to the screen by static electricity - or if extra adhesion is required, a little bead of blu-tak in the extreme top corners of the screen. Matt coated on one side, the monitor overlays reduce the screen glare from the actual VDU light source as well as tinting the background in the selected colour.

Crossbow anti screen glare software comes in two forms: the Virtual Reading Ruler and the new "Type-Thru" Virtual Screen Overlay, available on April this year. Both create a tinted background to the screen,  eliminating reflected glare from white pages but not the actual screen glare from the VDU light source. The "Type-Thru" Virtual Coloured Overlay

The "Type-Thru" Virtual Coloured Overlay
is a user-friendly screen tint for real time word processing and all other computer work, enabling the user to position and size the tinted area according to need, and type through the tint. The "Type-Thru" Virtual Screen Overlay will tint the whole screen or any area of the screen in any tint. The control panel (shown on screen shot, left) can be accessed instantly to configure overlay colour, dimensions and position. This is an easy-to use, lightweight programme which runs multiple applications without loading the memory with a lot of background code that slows down the machine.
