Dyslexia is a short-term memory and cognitive processing difficulty. Interrupt a dyslexic worker who is reading a document and they are likely to forget their place…

As well as Dyslexia causing reading and concentration problems, about 20% of the population find that words on a white background can be difficult or uncomfortable to read after a period of a few minutes. Many, but not all, of these people are dyslexic: the problem exists independently of dyslexia. Words or letters may blur or appear to “dance” or move around, and headaches and eye strain can be common. For some people the experience is so severe that reading is seriously impeded. Reading printed text or a VDU are both affected. A simple solution is often to just change the background colour of the page. (This is why our website has a cream, not white, background)
Before investing in overlay solutions, you need to know which colours to purchase. Some employees may already know their colours. Alternatively you can purchase mixed colour packs of reading rulers or overlays, or you can purchase a single user licence Virtual Reading Ruler and simply upgrade to site licence when required. An “At-a-glance” poster will also be available soon. See our literature or contact us for more details.
