Comprehension exercises for children with poor literacy skills.
These four topic-based titles offer practice of foundational comprehension skills in an uncluttered format that is appropriate for older children who are struggling with basic literacy. Content increases in difficulty through the four books, although the page layout is similar throughout, with text well separated by pictures so that discouraged readers feel at ease.
Each book contains 40 photocopiable exercises, teachers’ notes and a generic backing sheet with topic word, thought web and paragraph templates for additional activities.
Each topic page contains word-level section for phonically regular words and sight-word vocabulary. Comprehension sections include:
- Main idea
- Literal and inferential questions
- Giving opinions and making judgements
- Putting elements in sequence
