Originally  SIGHTWORD SPELLING, now completely revised in line with LETTERS AND SOUNDS and called "The First Hundred High Frequency Words", this beautifully designed set covers high frequency words from phases 2-3, and phases 4-5. It features SPELLING BOX SHAPES on a wipe clean surface that  can actually be written in with a dry-wipe pen. The cards are colour-coded for parts of speech, so that grammar terms and concepts can be taught where appropriate, while younger children can be taught the general principal that "different words have different colours because they do different jobs in the sentence."

Ten words from the list are repeated to facilitate playing a sentence building game, that helps children attain the goal of SPELLING HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS IN SENTENCES.

This  game by Bob Hext features the first hundred high frequency words as they appear in UK children's literature, as referred to in the "Letters and Sounds" programmme.  The principle is simple: sight word + picture on one side; picture plus sight word SHAPE on the other, on laminated, wipe-clean card for children to write on with a dry-wipe marker. Games can be played putting the sight words into sentences, helping children make the transition from spelling correctly at word level to continuing to spell correctly once the sight words are being used in sentences. As with most of our games for literacy  intervention, THE FIRST 100 WORDS  is designed to be appropriate for learners of all ages, even though the content of the cards is very basic.

Bob developed this system teaching children suffering from severe autism who had extreme short term memory problems.   Highly recommended.
