The times tables card game that doesn't just repeat the numbers - it teaches the principals behind them.

Many dyslexic (and other) children find the principals of multiplication and division extremely difficult to grasp, even well into teens and  adulthood. This can be because insufficient visual representations of the number concepts were used at the appropriate time, leaving the numeric symbols meaningless. There are various times tables resources available, but most of them do not go beyond the level of simply repeating or matching numbers, which does little to teach struggling students who have little or no understanding of the number operations themselves. This times tables resource however enables students to see the relationships between the numbers and thus better understand the progressions from one to another.

TURN THE TABLES uses visual arrangements of the numbers and explores the relationships between multiplication, division and adding on in a card game that is both fun, challenging and effective as a teaching aid. The example illustrated shows all the number cards that can be associated with the operation 3 x 6 = 18. The game involves collecting sequences of cards within one times table, thus exploring and learning the relationships between them, and also reversing the operations using the turn the tables card. The set comprises  three complete games: 4-5 times table; 6-7, and  8-9, and comes as a pdf file for you to print at your convenience onto card. The rules are included in the download.
