The Syllable Route

Syllabification: a key to understanding spelling rules.

Understanding syllabification is an essential part of the main route to acquiring spelling skills.  It is frequently skipped over or by-passed, but an understanding of syllable knowledge and morphology can be both motivating and empowering as it can bring clarity where there was confusion over the rules of spelling.

The Syllable Route is a well-ordered collection of activities, word lists, methods and resources exploring the rules of syllabification which has arisen out of the author’s own teaching experience. It is intended for use during focused literacy intervention in a 1:1 or small group setting for students of any age with dyslexia or related literacy difficulties.
